1936 Cord 810 Westchester
This Cord 810 Westchester dates from 1936 and is a very special car indeed, less than 2000 were built during its short 18 month production run. It was very advanced for its time and features front wheel drive, pre-select manual 4 speed overdrive gearbox, pop-up headlamps and a really long list of other industry “firsts”. Even the 4.7 Litre flathead V8 was built by an aircraft manufacturer !
Repainted in its factory “Cigarette Cream” paint colour in 2010 and re-trimmed by our upholsterer in 2021 it looks amazing inside and out. These cars cost as much as a house when new and were the preserve of movie stars and celebrities . The over complicated nature of these cars meant nobody could understand how to fix them and unreliability issues meant the company went bust in 1937 sealing their fate into the history books.
Nowadays much more information and knowledge means they are a little more straightforward to maintain. This model of Cord is the only car to reside in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Photo shoot with the Cord was for Classic American magazine at Brooklands, the old control tower has a nice Art Deco design that suited the car well.
